A Case of Stroke and Vestibular Recovery: Restoring Balance and Mobility
Everett, a resilient 18-year-old cat who had already been receiving acupuncture with us to help manage his arthritis and maintain his overall comfort, returned to our care when his family noticed a sudden change—difficulty walking, loss of coordination, and unusual eye movements.
During his first visit with us for this new issue, Everett showed signs consistent with a vestibular episode—commonly seen in older pets as sudden dizziness or unsteadiness. We recommended a neurology consultation while beginning acupuncture treatments to help support his nervous system and ease his discomfort.
After his neurology evaluation, Everett’s care team suspected a stroke and recommended close monitoring. We continued acupuncture, and over the next several weeks, Everett made incredible strides. His family shared that he was not only moving more steadily but had begun climbing stairs again—something he hadn’t done in quite some time.
As his strength and balance returned, we transitioned Everett to monthly maintenance sessions. His progress was so encouraging that he was able to take a break from treatments for a time. When he returned to us months later, it was clear he was still thriving.
Everett’s journey is a beautiful reminder that even our senior companions can regain independence and comfort with the right care. If your pet is facing similar challenges, we’re here to help. Explore the videos below to see Everett’s progress in action—and feel free to reach out to learn how we can support your pet’s journey to better health.

Meet Everett on his first visit with us. He’s experiencing ataxia, making him a bit wobbly and hesitant to move, as his balance system is affected. Watch as he carefully navigates his space, showing the early signs of his journey.
One month and one treatment session later, Everett is showing more confidence! He’s quicker on his feet, taking steadier steps, and showing less wobbliness. We’re excited to see him growing stronger!
Here’s Everett just before an 8-month break in treatment. He’s walking with improved balance and poise, showing increased confidence with every step. Less ataxic, more assured—this brave kitty has come a long way!
