FOOD THERAPY
Wholesome Healing: Unlocking the Benefits of Food Therapy for Pets
At our clinic, we believe in a comprehensive approach to pet health, which includes food therapy based on Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) principles. This method focuses on using food to support your pet’s well-being.
Key Concepts of Food Therapy
- Balance is Key: In TCVM, health comes from achieving balance between the body, mind and environment. There are several philosophies from TCVM which we incorporate such as Five Elements and Yin Yang theories. Through food, we can use these concepts to support your pet’s health.
- Food Types Matter: Different foods have unique properties. Food’s can be warming (like lamb) or cooling (like cucumber). Each flavor (sweet, sour, bitter, spicy, salty) benefits different organs.
- Personalized Diets: Every pet is unique! We tailor diets based on your pet’s specific needs, whether they need more cooling foods for heat-related issues or warming foods for cold conditions.
- Integrated Care: Food therapy is part of a complete health plan. We may also recommend acupuncture, herbal supplements, and lifestyle changes for optimal wellness.
#Consult with Us: To find the best food therapy plan for your pet, schedule a consultation with our TCVM-trained veterinarian. Together, we can promote your pet’s health and happiness through the power of food!
Behavioral Consultations
Struggling to Find a Behaviorist Near You? We Can Help!
At My Friendly Vet, we understand that addressing behavioral concerns in pets can be challenging, especially if specialized resources are not readily available. That’s why we offer doctor-to-doctor behavioral consultations.
What Are Doctor-to-Doctor Consultations?
In this unique service, our veterinarian, Dr. Natalie, acts as a point of contact between you and a specialized behaviorist. This consultation aims to facilitate communication and guidance on your pet’s behavioral issues without the need for immediate access to a local behaviorist.
#Affordable Solutions: Our consultations are offered at a reduced cost to ensure that you receive the support you need without breaking the bank.
#Collaboration: If you have an existing behaviorist, we can use our Eastern medicine approach to work along with your behaviorist to address the behavior concerns you may have. In addition to your behaviorist recommendations, we can incorporate various techniques including acupuncture, herbal therapy, and food therapy to achieve the best results.
How Does It Work?
- Initial Evaluation: Before completing a doctor-to-doctor consultation, Dr. Natalie will perform a thorough evaluation of your pet. This assessment is crucial for understanding your pet’s specific behavioral concerns and can also help identify underlying physical health issues, such as pain, that may be contributing to those behaviors.
- Required Forms: To facilitate the consultation, you will need to complete specific forms. This helps us gather all necessary information for a comprehensive evaluation.
- Specialized Support: While this service does not intend to substitute for a full veterinary behavior consultation, it provides valuable assistance for those who may not have immediate access to a behaviorist or the option to pursue a full assessment.
Pet Poison Consultations
Pet Poison Helpline: An Extra Resource for Established Clients
At My Friendly Vet, we prioritize your pet’s safety and well-being. If you suspect your pet has ingested something toxic, the Pet Poison Helpline offers valuable support. Here’s how it works and what you need to know.
How the Helpline Works
- Immediate Action: If you believe your pet has been poisoned, your first step should be to contact an emergency veterinary clinic. They can provide immediate care and treatment.
- Poison Control Consultation: After your emergency visit, or in need of further advice, you can reach out to a poison control helpline. This service is staffed by veterinary professionals trained to handle toxic exposures.
- Our Involvement: While you can call the poison control center directly, involving our veterinarian can enhance the support you receive. If you choose, our doctor can act as a point of contact for the poison control team, allowing them to consult directly about your pet’s case.
Difference Between Client and Vet Calls
- Client Call: If you call poison control directly, you’ll receive guidance from their trained staff based on the information you provide.
- Veterinarian Call: If My Friendly Vet is involved, this means a Pet Poison Helpline veterinarian will be consulting directly with our doctor. When our veterinarian contacts poison control on your behalf, they can provide detailed medical history and context about your pet. This allows for more precise advice and treatment recommendations, ensuring your pet receives the best possible care.
