Pawsitive Progress: How Integrative Treatments Gave Everett a New Lease on Life

Everett, an 18-year-old neutered male cat, came to us in June 2023 with symptoms of ataxia (incoordination) alongside his ongoing arthritis management. His medical history included controlled hypertension, a pulmonary cyst, joint disease, and recent episodes of acute nystagmus and ataxia. During his initial examination, we noted the sudden onset of vestibular ataxia with nystagmus, which led us to recommend a referral to a neurologist while providing acupuncture to alleviate his symptoms.

In July, after seeing the neurologist, Everett was evaluated and further testing was suggested, though the neurologist suspected a stroke based on the clinical findings. The neurologist recommended tapering his prednisolone dosage while advising a watchful approach alongside continued acupuncture treatments.

By his follow-up visit, Everett had made remarkable progress. His owner reported significant improvement, and by August, during his third acupuncture session, it was evident that Everett was regaining strength and mobility—he could even navigate the stairs to the second floor of his home, something he hadn’t done in quite some time. We continued monthly acupuncture sessions to help Everett maintain a high quality of life, and after a successful treatment period, his owner took a brief hiatus from visits before returning eight months later for continued support.

Everett is now thriving and enjoying life, a testament to the positive impact of our comprehensive care approach.
